Senior pictures are like class rings.

The title speaks truth.  You hardly ever see your class ring after you graduate.  Same thing with senior pictures, it is so exciting, your senior looks amazing in the picture and you order a gigantic print to hang up.  Here are some tips from Jill on senior pictures:

1).  Resist the urge to order the "whole enchilada" photo package that the photographers are promoting.  You will NEVER give away or hang all these prints.  Instead opt for the 4x6 and 5x7 sizes for framing and giving.

2).  Replace some of your older framed photographs with new ones of your senior.  Your home should be edited constantly to make sure that you are not overrun with tons of photos that are just collecting dust.  A few well-placed photographs make a better look.

3). Make a senior year memory book for them to take to college.  All those shots the photographer took during your senior's sitting can be purchased in a 4x6 size and put into a photo book.  It's portable and makes a great gift.  Since college will be such a new experience , a memory book of their year will mean a lot.

Have a GREAT senior year!

Inspiration Wednesday. Children need it too! :)

I found this article today and thought it was really interesting!  If your child doesn't enjoy sitting down and reading, maybe these creative/sneaky approaches will help!
1. Play board games. Scrabble or Boggle are specifically good for building vocabulary and spelling.
 2. Collect trading cards. There are card series to appeal to most interests, from sports to space travel, Yu-Gi-Oh! to Beanie Babies.
 3. Learn “how to.” Is there something your child would really like to do, such as perform magic tricks or add sequins to her jeans? Encourage her to find out how by reading about it.
 4. Get cooking. Invite your child to help you bake a cake or a special meal together. If necessary, simplify and rewrite a recipe's instructions so they can read it to you.
 5. Make cards. Have your child make her own cards for holidays, birthdays, party invitations, and thank-yous. Help her write a personal message to each recipient.
 6. Create signs and labels. Help your early reader build his vocabulary by creating stickers or signs for his room that identify toys or furniture: "bike," "desk," etc.
 7. Take a road trip. Write down travel directions and have your child serve as navigator when you drive. Give your co-pilot a map before you go, and ask her to mark the route according to the directions.
 8. Put on a play. You can perform the play for a special celebration or family party. Help your child find an appealing script or create one together based on a favorite movie. Remind your child that he must memorize his lines by reading them over and over.
 9. Write messages for your child. Even if you spend hours together in the same room, there are many reasons to write to your child. Drop a letter in her school bag or lunch box.
 10. Host a scavenger hunt. Make a list of items that your child and his friends need to find inside your house or around the neighborhood. Provide written clues that lead to the treasures.

Inspiration Wednesday

In honor of Jill being on vacation this week, my inspiration is relaxation.  Hopefully she is relaxing on the beach somewhere!  Just getting away and clearing your head, even a few days away from the chaos of jobs can make you feel like a new person.  We all need to recharge at some point.  Don't forget how important it is to make time for yourself, I know that is so hard to do when you have families and obligations.  But it is the best thing you can do for yourself.

Color Tuesday!

Today's color Tuesday is completely a classic combo, but one I have been seeing a lot of.  Because, lets face it, navy is the new black.  Navy can pair with just about anything beautifully, it has become a new love of mine since working here at J. Lawrence Design.

This room is so clean and fresh.  Just a few pops of green, and it becomes so stylish.
Can we just talk about the nail head trim? Gorgeous.  Love this color combo.

This room features more of a navy/sage combo and it still works beautifully.

Love the surprise pop of color behind the shelves!

Cool Find Friday!

Poor ceilings, they are often painted white and forgotten... But here are some amazing ceiling treatments that will grab your attention!
Chunky moulded beams with accent ceiling tiles.  Subtle contrast, but still a huge focal point in the space.

Love the more subtle geometric style moulding, especially with the focal furniture.
Ooooo ahhhh, tent treatment on the ceiling in the fitness room.
Such a cool pattern!

Enjoy!

Design Tip Thursday!

So I am kind of cheating here, I am squishing organization monday with design tip thursday because I missed it this week.  I love organization Monday, and I hate to miss out on it when we get busy.  So, here it is, nursery organization and tips!

These are so amazing!  They can help you keep track of what needs to stay in your closet and what you are in need of.  Super helpful i'm sure after you get a gazillion clothes at your baby shower.
What little girl wouldn't love this closet? I would love this closet! Such a cute little surprise in a girl's closet.

Love this super organized and functional closest for a nursery, probably really helpful to sitters and family helping with the baby.

I found these amazing senegalese baskets, how amazing are these for ALL ages.  An easy and pretty way to store toys or shoes.

Enjoy!

Inspiration Wednesday! Use your imagination!

"Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we know and understand. While imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand". Albert Einstein.

Color Tuesday!

Since it has been oh so sunshiney lately, I thought I would do yellow for my color Tuesday and some colors it pairs well with!
I LOVE this room.  It's so cheery and happy.  The pops of a light apple green work so well with this buttery yellow.

Keep it neutral if you want to do a bright yellow like this.  Love how it is done in punches of intense yellow.  Check out Martha back there popping in with a yellow top.  Go girl! ;)

Yellow can be done in a bedroom too, best paired with a color such as this sky blue so you can still have a tranquil feel in your bedroom.  Bed time approved.

Enjoy the sunshine!

Cool Find Friday!

Jill recently told me about a company called 'Glassybaby'.  An awesome company that donates 10% of all sales to charities helping cancer patients.

In 1995, at the age of 32, Lee Rhodes was stricken with a third round of a rare form of lung cancer. The mother of three had previously given her then husband, Emery Rhodes, glass blowing lessons, and he created small glass cups, or “baby glasses”, which she would light with tea light candles to find solace during the difficult cancer treatments.[1] Encouraged by the demand from her friends, Rhodes hired local glassblowers in 1998 to produce more glassybaby, and began selling them out of her garage. From the beginning, Rhodes wanted to spread hope and give back money from sales to help cancer patients.

The product is gorgeous and comes in just about every color you can think of!  They go to a great cause.  The website also has larger thinner drinking glasses that benefit veterans battling cancer.  So go check out this awesome company that is doing great things!

Inspiration Wednesday. Tom Ford

Tom Ford’s name is synonymous with clean, modern, upscale design. The perfectionist designer with the golden touch, Tom Ford is known for designing everything as expensive and luxurious as possible.  A former architecture graduate with an interest in fashion,  Ford went from growing up in Texas to helming two of the world’s most notable luxury brands.  He is known to most for being the creative director who basically single-handedly saved Gucci from the brink of extinction and transformed the company into a style giant. Now the proud owner of his own fashion brand, he continues his remarkable career proliferating  nothing but the most  uncompromisingly tasteful design.

Fashion is everything. Art, music, furniture design, graphic design, hair, makeup, architecture, the way cars look–all those things go together to make a moment in time, and that’s what excites me.  - Tom Ford

                                                      Chrome walls?!  Gorgeous!

Pictures of his personal home in London.

Needless to say, he is amazing whether it is in fashion or interiors.

Color Tuesday!

This color combo is a gorgeous classic pair.  Camel and white is a simple pair, but so pretty.  Camel is a warm, rich color while white is clean and fresh.  Together, I think they are beautiful.

Love the grey worked in with these colors.

This room is airy, but while still being rich and cozy.

Organization Monday!

Make your broom closet beautiful! With just a few organizing tips, this little space can look fabulous too!  As you can see from the pictures a wall mounted hanger for broom and mop handles can keep them from sitting on the floor.  Also love the idea of hanging a paper towel dispenser inside!

Just keep the necessities inside to keep everything clean and organized.  This closet has everything they need for a deep cleaning day!

The container store features these racks at just $20.00.  They make a great difference in the organization of the closet!

Color Tuesday!

Aqua has long been a favorite color of mine.  It is a gorgeous color and pairs well with SO MANY things!

Love the combo of all three of these colors!  The white keeps is clean and airy while the camel colors keep it grounded.

This is an awesome example of a bold statement made with blue and orange!  Loving the trim work on the drapes.

Ahh this kitchen is super light and fresh, just a few soft pops of color, then an eye catching table.

Enjoy!

Organization Monday!

This area can get out of hand quicker than most!  All it takes is one shove of a towel or blanket to mess everything up.  The linen closet is a forgotten space in a lot of homes.  But, on occasion, guests do access this space to get things.  So you want it to look presentable, right?!  Here are some lovely examples of some well organized linen closets that still look great!

This closet is very guest friendly, it even includes a hamper for your guests to toss their used linens!

Love that there is a touch of decor in this closet, who says a closet can't be decorated as well?!

I know this isn't a closet, but a VERY cute organization solution for your bathroom or a guest bath.

Very organized and labeled so guests know exactly where everything is at.

Enjoy!
